RSC R&D Challenge

    XR Network+ is partnering with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) to run an R&D challenge for academic-led projects to explore the creative possibilities of virtual production technologies in theatre performance.       MoCap at Maida Vale Studios

        XR Stories is supporting two University of York research and development projects at the iconic Maida Vale Studios, providing expertise and technical support including performance capture and specialist recording equipment. Led by the university's AudioLab, the projects are investigating networked musical performance between different spaces.

        Artists' AI Residency

        An opportunity for a 10 day artists' residency with BRiGHTBLACK to explore ethical use of artificial intelligence in creative practice. No previous AI experience required. Apply by 24 July 2024.

        A creative year in enterprise

          Quinn McMahon

          XR Stories is providing specialist support to undergraduate students at the University of York looking to start their own business in the immersive industries. Quinn McMahon will work alongside the XR Stories team to build his company, Point Reverie, a hybrid independent game development and work-for-hire studio.

            Aesthetica Short Film Festival

              XR Stories is collaborating with the UAL London College of Communication to programme the virtual reality strand for the Aesthetica Short Film Festival, taking place in York from 6 to 10 November 2024. The role involves the selection and curation of content to connect audiences to diverse and high quality new experiences.

              XR Accelerator programme

              XR Network+ recently partnered with Codebase to deliver an XR Accelerator  for people working in extended reality technologies at UK universities. Over six weeks, the cohort attended online and in person workshops, hearing from startup founders and business experts to develop entrepreneurial skills and explore what goes into creating a sustainable technology business.

              July online webinar

              On Wednesday 17 July, join the XR Network+ online seminar to hear about two R&D projects taking place at the University of Nottingham Virtual and Immersive Production studio that are exploring new formats for professional role-playing games and performance, in collaboration with industry partners from Lumo Company and Twisted Narrative.

              Portsmouth CCIXR

              On 5 June, XR Network+ travelled to the University of Portsmouth CCIXR for a roadshow event where attendees from the local creative industries joined research colleagues for an evening of demos, networking and conversations about all things XR, with speakers from the RSC and Hatsmui. Stay tuned for news of roadshow events in your area.

              Digital Economy Symposium

              On 10 June, Damian Murphy joined the UKRI Next Stage Digital Economy symposium to share insights and updates about the activities taking place at XR Network+ to establish a research agenda for virtual production-related content consumption. The six DE centres at universities across the UK are exploring ways to harness digital technologies.
